GIRLS SUMMIT CALL - SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 19TH - LISTEN TO THE CONVERSATION!

After the success of our last call in October, the NYSAHA will continue monthly zooms to discuss Girls Hockey in NY.  ALL coaches for the girls teams we have this season in NY are invited to give their input. It is is extremely important as we review what we do and look for ways to grow and develop the female game.

This month our focus was on how NY Tier 1, and Tier 2 teams declare and advance to states and national championships.  We had a guests speaker from USAH that provided a national perspective on what Tier 1 and Tier 2 landscape looks like, and we discussed possible options on how to make a level playing field for all teams.

NYS Girls Hockey Summit - An Overview of Tier 1 & 2 Hockey In NY

GIRLS TIER 1 STATE AND NATIONALLY TOURNAMENT BOUND TEAMS 22-23

USA Hockey has established criteria and standards for Tier 1 Girls programs and notifies Districts of the number of Tier 1 teams that they are allowed to field.  The NYSAHA has been notified that we may field 7 teams at the 14u level, 6 teams at the 16u level and 4 teams at the 19u level for 2022-2023 season.

According to the NYSAHA bylaws, all organizations that wish to be considered for Tier 1 status are required to submit initial rosters by August 30th.  If the number of teams that submit rosters exceeds the numbers provided by USA Hockey a Tiering Tournament is to be held to determine what teams can be considered as Tier 1.  This does not apply to 12u teams.

Based on the number of teams that submitted rosters a Tiering Tournament will NOT be needed for this season.

See a list of the the teams that are considered to be Tier 1 for this season below.
